At the Call of Duty XP event, Activision announced a premium subscription model dubbed "Call of Duty: Elite". This is a $50.00 annual subscription fee in which you receive all of the DLC content ahead of those who choose to purchase the DLC content as it releases. It's also mentioned that subscription members "get it more often".
Elite subscription members will gain access to 20 pieces of downloadable content for MW3, which includes new gameplay modes, spec ops missions and map packs. Activision will deliver all of this content over a 9 month "DLC Season". They also receive 8x the storage space for replay videos, tournament privaleges Elite TV episodes.
The question: Who in their right mind would ever pay for this other than those who are ignorant to existence of other better games like Battlefield 3? Who in their right mind would pay $50 extra per year to access DLC content from a game that appears to be a DLC itself?
At this point, it appears Activision is more willing than ever to end the COD series on a note of greed and corporatism.
